A Blue Moon
We can see the sunlight that reflects from the moon to the earth. The revolution of the moon around the earth means that we mostly see a portion of this light from the earth. We see more of the moon as it moves farther from the sun during its revolution around us.

Usually, a full moon occurs once in one month. A lunar revolution takes 29.5 days to happen while the Gregorian calendar has an average number of 30.42 days in a month. These differences result in a full moon occurring twice in a month every two to three years.
Blue moon is the term used to describe the second full moon in a month.
The moon revolves around the earth in an elliptically. That means the distance from the moon to the earth changes based on where the moon is in this orbit. Sometimes, a full moon occurs when the moon is at its closest distance to the earth. The fully visible moon will appear larger than usual because it is near the earth. The term used to describe the enlarged appearance of the moon at this time is a supermoon. It occurs three to four times each year.
A Blood Moon
The sun hits the earth with its light. The earth, being an opaque object, casts a shadow on anything behind it that is within a given distance. Sometimes the moon finds itself in the heart of this shadow, i.e., it enters into the center of the earth’s umbra. Some light reaches it indirectly, so it appears red. People refer to this appearance as a blood moon. NASA predicts that the earth will experience 3,479 blood moons from 2,000 BC to 3,000 AD. That translates to an average of 0.6958 eclipses each year.
